TECHNICAL PROGRAM

Chambers for EV Component Testing

Mr. Garth D’Abreu, Director Automotive Solutions, ETS-Lindgren, Cedar Park, Texas

Abstract:  There are several factors that go into the selection of an EMC facility to be used for automotive component testing. For a test lab that caters to automotive as well as commercial customers, it is important to make sure that a facility provides the best and broadest coverage of required test capabilities. This webinar presentation will highlight some of the most relevant international automotive EMC test standards, the aspects of test facilities required, and relationship to other commercial and military requirements where relevant.

Topics to be presented include:

  • Introduction to Standards for EMC Testing
  • Standard Anechoic Chamber Designs
  • Alternative Test Sites/Chamber Designs
  • Reverb Chambers
  • Live Q&A

MODERATOR AND SPEAKER BIOGRAPHIES:

Mr. Ammar Sarwar is the Regional Sales Manager EMEA, for ETS-Lindgren in Europe where he works on test and measurement projects for automotive, wireless, consumer electronics, and defense applications.  He received his Master of Science degree in communications engineering, with an emphasis on RF and EMC, from the Technical University Munich, Germany and his Bachelor of Science degree in electrical engineering from the National University of Science and Technology, Islamabad, Pakistan.  He has been working for ETS Lindgren for more than six years. Before joining ETS-Lindgren, he worked in the EMC department of BMW AG Munich (on behalf of CSA Group Bayern) where he was involved in EMC design/simulation and EMC testing of automotive components in RF shielded chambers.  His areas of interest include complete test and measurement systems for automotive EMC and MIMO/OTA for wireless device applications.  Mr. Sarwar may be reached at ammar.sarwar@ets-lindgren.com.

Mr. Garth D’Abreu is the Director, Automotive Solutions at ETS-Lindgren based at the corporate headquarters office in Cedar Park, Texas. He currently has primary responsibility for the design and development functions within the Systems Engineering group, specializing in turn-key solutions for Automotive EMC, Wireless and OTA test integration.  Some of these more complex full vehicle and ESA test chambers involve his coordination with the RF engineering team on custom components, and the certified, internal Building Information Modeling (BIM) team at ETS-Lindgren.  He is also the ETS-Lindgren subject matter expert responsible for the ongoing research and development of reverberation chambers, GTEM cells, and supports the RF filters, EMP applications, and wireless device test systems groups.  Automotive EMC, antenna measurement, and wireless test systems for modern vehicles incorporate multiple measurement techniques and chamber combinations, for which his experience is well suited.  Mr. D’Abreu is a senior member of the IEEE EMC Society and currently serves the Society as a Distinguished Lecturer (2022-2023) on Automotive EMC topics.  He is an active participant in standards development as a member of the US ISO and CISPR D automotive EMC standards committees.  He has over 30 years of experience in the RF industry.  His BSc degree in Electronics & Communications Engineering was received from North London University (London Metropolitan University), UK.  Mr. D’Abreu may be reached at garth.dabreu@ets-lindgren.com.
